Just a tiny teaser… just a tiny one…

It’s almost time my friends… I’m glad to announce that all the graphical resources for The Fucking Question V2 is completed and is being compiled into the project to be thoroughly tested so we won’t repeat the same embarrassing mistake we had the last time…

So what to expect in version 2?… Well… of course there is the graphical updates, the larger resolution and more unreasonable amounts of animation here and there that will grab your systems resources by the balls and slow down your machine… Lol! Also present are the side stories, a “real” Q&A portion with input questions from anyone that is not me and finally answering the age old question… what is the relationship between Lucy and Uncle Mugen… are they friends? Are they lovers?… you will soon find out… Lol!…

Above is a sprite comparison between the old and the new sprites. While Boyet (Schoolgirl) closely resembles her previous sprite, Diego has undergone a radical change… gone are the hime-cut hairstyle in favor of the stereotypical perky girl generic anime style complete with ahegao ahoge (that dangling hair)

One interesting thing about this project is that while adding a few new nifty tricks… I uncovered an unexpected glitch in the Ren’py Tooltip where the Tooltip remains persistent in the screen after moving to a new menu and in what can be called a rare Uncle Mugen moment… I actually used my coconut to figure out a really ugly workaround to this problem. How ugly you ask? I filled the whole unused space of the screen with Null hotspots that displays an invisible image to override the previously shown Tooltip… Lol!… the game is now 100% slower on older machines!… Isn’t it great!?… OK that’s all for now… one last image to tease you my friends… Wha!… What!?… I’m fat!?… of course I’m fat now but this is 2008 Uncle Mugen… and back then I’m still lean and mean and handsome… oh wait… I’m still handsome… Lol!

Updated Sylvie Sprite

Not much to say but here is the current sprite for Sylvie for The Fucking Question which is slated to get a graphics update and code update to comply with latest Ren’py… it’s not really that much effort since Sylvie only has nine (9) sprites and I did all of it in one sitting but the coding will be a pain to update though necessary since the original The Fucking Question already has difficulty running in newer machines…

Anyway, she’s now more thinner and slender with more pronounced facial expressions compared to her 2008 sprite. Adding the eyebugs and slightly visible wrinkles will reinforce the fact that she’s engaged in not so healthy activities like Drugs and a hind of Alcohol Abuse (No! Marijuana is totally safe and is non-addictive… true story) and currently leading a difficult and hard life. Also removed the inscription in the shirt since it makes the whole scene crowded. The script will most likely stay intact save for a few grammatical corrections here and there.

Other than that… not much to say for now… Oh well… here’s a mock up teaser…

Finally! An updated tutorial on how to create beautiful background graphics for use in Visual Novels or OELVN using Sketchup and Photoshop! Perfect for people like me who are untalented in drawing backgrounds. I finally managed to streamline the process enough to create a tutorial so I can share my technique. With this, it is now one step closer to that quick, cheap and beautiful background graphics that are inaccessible for us mere mortals…

With this now all of our backgrounds will look the same… Lol!

Note:

  • This tutorial is perfect for outdoor shots but not applicable for inside shots especially rooms with limited light. I’ll do a tutorial on that soon…
  • While I used SU Podium Renderer on this tutorial… it is expensive and can be replaced by any other renderer ( there are several freeware renderers available) as long as it has the option to render in clay mode (textureless). One good example is Kerkythea [ www.kerkythea.net/joomla/ ] and IDX Renditioner Free Edition [ www.imsidesign.com/Products/Renditioner/RenditionerExpressv2/tabid/1904/Default.aspx ]
  • Sketchup is a 32 bit application (Seriously why?) so even if you have monster memory you’ll still hit the ceiling sooner or later so be careful and not to put too much load on the scene.
