Announcement: “Hammer” a Studio Mugenjohncel NaNoRenO OELVN entry

Warning! Horrible English!

And now comes the obligatory WIP announcement. I’ll be joining this NaNorenO 2014 (again, as a one man forever alone team ;_; ) with a short OELVN entry called “Hammer”… So the story was about a mysterious illness has spread throughout the world killing people everywhere and in desperation, you escaped and wandered aimlessly and ended up in some remote cabin somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

But yes, unlike previous OELVN projects where most assets are hand drawn… due to time constraints because I am very busy person but I do not want to quit making OELVN’s, I decided to toss aside quality for now focus on Maximum Efficiency by relying on Sketchup for Backgrounds and ComiPO for the character sprites… They are 3D and may not look as good as 2D but they look good enough… Another thing that separates this OELVN project is it’s extremely minimalist approach… yes, GUI is thrown out of the window so I can has focus on the story. I know what I’m doing is basically using cheap and quick methods to get something done but you see… NaNoRenO is all about getting the job done within the allowed time… and this is something I plan to complete in time allowed.

I really can’t say much at this stage other than I’ll be releasing this OELVN work this coming March 29, 2014… the extra days are just to be safe that I have thoroughly bug tested it so will has no problem in release time.

Also, go check out the NaNoRenO WIP section of Lemmasoft, there are so many OELVN projects going on right now. Some will finish, some will not, some might be delayed but that is a lot of potential OELVN’s to read and enjoy and I wish everyone luck and good fortune and may every Dev finish their projects…

I should have listened to LateWhiteRabbit’s advice… never get too attached to your project…

So we have this girl here whose name we still don’t know to this day first appeared on Dec 04, 2011 in a game called “Renpy Date Simulation Engine – The Game”… to the world, this project was pretty much a done deal already. But unknown to most, there are at least 3 more versions that came out, each with improvements on it’s predecessor… mostly Graphics and some optimization. I’ve been using this project internally to test new Renpy features, improve my personal arsenal of Ren’py know how and as a sort of R&D showcase project which I secretly release to a few select people here in Lemmasoft via normal email (wink). And now nearly 2 years later and 4 different release versions later… here we go again…

This would be her 8th version sprite-wise. The revision is necessary since the latest BG’s have changed drastically that the 7th revision now stands out too much.

So the 8th sprite revision is sort of dumbed down detail and color wise compared to the previous version, the lines are much thinner and cleaner and extremely reduced shading. Anyway, I’m currently contemplating about publicly releasing the next version as 2.0 (which is technically Version 5.0 if we count the private releases) then again, who would be interested in a two year old game that will only get Animated BG’s and improved sprites and FX’s…

Back then I said this…

The lack of an open complete GUI example featuring Imagebuttons is probably one of the biggest wall in Ren’py that prevents layman people like me from adopting this superior method… While Imagemap is easier to use… everyone knows that the future of Ren’py belongs to Imagebuttons…

And then comes Leon from Lemmasoft

Not anymore, Uncle Mugen! Here is a complete GUI example so everyone can learn to imagebutton!

Long story short… this is a whole fully working screen based imagebutton GUI with a few bells and whistles designed to be dissected so everyone can learn how to do imagebutton GUI in Renpy… This is made possible thanks to Leon Zavšek (Leon)… Good Job bro! and Thanks! This will help us layman people how to make very good GUI in Ren’py…

Insert Title Here – A scalable and recyclable OELVN (aka VN)

OHIO GO SAY MUST everyone… it is me UNCLE MUGEN… it’s been a while…

Allow me to introduce to you what Uncle Mugen has been cooking lately… Today, I present you the OELVN “INSERT TITLE HERE”… yes… I’m not kidding… that is the name of the OELVN (aka EVN or English Visual Novel)

Yes, that is the name of the game… not even joking…

It can trace its beginnings to the original Project Gakuen whose goal is to produce a recyclable and scalable generic school themed OELVN where you can insert any story you wanted but on a more grander scale (click here to learn more) … Fast forward a few months later… after doing a really thorough feasibility study… I found out that it was next to impossible to finish it in any reasonable amount of time with only me doing everything so I have scaled down the project from a large multi acre International School into a generic 300,000 sqm High School OELVN titled  “INSERT TITLE HERE”.
